Bioiberica reveals study results confirming presence of bioactive peptides in Palbio® hydrolysed protein

Bioiberica, a global life science company, has on December 15 announced the publication of a scientific paper in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences confirming the presence of bioactive peptides in Palbio® – a hydrolysed porcine intestinal mucosa protein for improved animal nutrition.
Building on previous evidence of the ingredients' benefits for animal health and performance, the newly commissioned research validates the hypothesis that Palbio® bioactive peptides have specific biological functions – such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytokine/growth factor-like, and immunomodulatory activities. The new research sets Palbio® apart as a science-backed, high-protein functional feed ingredient with tangible benefits for key growth markers, helping pet food, livestock and aquafeed producers better support animal health and nutrition.
For over 25 years, scientific researchers at Bioiberica have been continuously working to define and refine the benefits of the Palbio® range for animal nutrition.
Palbio® is developed with porcine protein obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis in a circular economy model as a co-product of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Early macro research demonstrated the ingredient's status as a palatable and highly bioavailable source of amino acids shown to support metabolism, promote feed intake, and generally stimulate growth in swine, poultry and pets.
Through further studies, it was discovered that Palbio® influences the morphology of intestinal cells, selectively promoting their growth over that of other tissues like lung, liver, and kidney. Subsequently, the ingredient was also found to stimulate metabolic regulators in gut cells, particularly those involved in key physiological functions.
Backed by this robust body of evidence, researchers at Bioiberica set out to confirm that Palbio® is both rich in free amino acids and contains bioactive peptides with specific biological activities.
The new study, published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, supports this hypothesis, with animals supplemented with Palbio® showing evidence of contribution to growth, gut integrity, and immune modulation.
