Cooke finalises acquisition of Peru's largest fishing company
Cooke has completed the acquisition of Copeinca, following a binding share purchase agreement between Copeinca Canada Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cooke, and PF Cayman New Holdco Limited.
Under the agreement, Cooke has indirectly acquired all outstanding shares of Copeinca.
Established in 1994, Copeinca has grown to become Peru's largest fishing company and one of the leading processors of anchoveta. It is also recognised as one of the world's largest producers and exporters of anchoveta fishmeal and fish oil.
With its global headquarters in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Cooke operates aquaculture and wild fishery divisions in 15 countries. Employing more than 15,000 people, the company supplies sustainable seafood to markets worldwide.
"We're excited to welcome Copeinca's dedicated employees to the Cooke family of companies," said Glenn Cooke, CEO of Cooke. "Copeinca will be a major contributor in furthering Cooke's growth as a leader in strengthening global food security."
The acquisition bolsters Cooke's marine ingredients business and expands its geographic and species portfolio.
Cooke first entered the marine ingredients sector in 2017 with the acquisition of US-based Omega Protein Corporation. Omega Protein is a nutritional product company specialising in the production of specialty oils and protein products.
Through this latest acquisition, Cooke continues to grow its footprint in the global seafood industry while reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices and diversified seafood production.
