Dong Nai, Vietnam fines CP Vietnam for environmental violations

The southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai has fined CP Vietnam Corporation, a Thailand-invested company, VND 790 million (US$31,080) for multiple violations of environmental regulations.

The fine follows an inspection that identified three specific violations. The company lacked approval for the environmental impact report of its poultry feed project and an environmental license for its animal feed project. Additionally, its waste treatment facilities were not operating in compliance with regulations.

The penalties imposed include VND 350 million (US$13,770) for the first violation, VND 300 million (US$11,806) for the second, and VND 140 million (US$5,509) for the third, amounting to a total fine of VND 790 million (US$31,080). Dong Nai authorities opted not to enforce further punitive measures such as suspending or relocating the facilities.

CP Vietnam, established in 1993, operates under Thailand's Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group and runs 21 factories across Vietnam. In Dong Nai province, the company manages two animal-poultry feed plants, one fisheries feed plant, and one meat processing factory.

Earlier this month, CP Vietnam entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture Vietnam (PSAV), an agency under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The collaboration aims to enhance sustainable agricultural practices in Vietnam, focusing on transparency, accountability, and sustainability in food systems.

The parent company, Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), reported revenues of THB 63,581 million (US$1.85 billion) from its Vietnam operations in the first half of this year, marking a 9% year-on-year increase.
