Cambodian authorities confiscate rotten pork and chicken innards at Siem Reap
Siem Reap provincial authorities seized and destroyed close to one tonne of rotten pork and chicken innards which were illegally imported from Thailand, Phnom Penh Post reported.
Mork Theara, Siam Reap deputy police chief in charge of anti-economic crimes said police and officials from the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries department stopped a truck in Siam Reap as it was transporting foul smelling meat.
The truck and its contents were seized by officials, while the driver claimed not to be the owner of the goods.
Officials from the Production and Treatment Office at the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries proceeded to destroy the tainted meat.
Prum Vich, Production and Treatment Office chief said the driver was told to sign an agreement not to transport rotten products.
Cambodia's law on Animal Health and Animal Production states that the owner should be fined, but since the owner could not be found, the meat was subsequently destroyed.
