Zamboanga, Philippines strengthens efforts against ASF
The city government of Zamboanga, Philippines, is intensifying its efforts to combat African swine fever (ASF) following new cases detected by the city's veterinary office, Zawya reported.
Dr Arcadio Cavan Jr, the assistant city veterinarian, reported that blood samples from four hog farms in Barangay Lunzuran tested positive for ASF. These findings were shared with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, where it was revealed that at least 20 swine deaths had occurred across the four farms.
In response to the outbreak, the veterinary office has conducted a 'depopulation at ground zero' and implemented biosecurity measures to prevent the virus from spreading to nearby villages.
Mayor John Dalipe, who chairs the council, approved a resolution to aid the affected farmers and indemnity for the hogs that were culled as part of the containment efforts.
