According to the 2024 edition of the China Fisheries Statistical Yearbook, the total output of farmed shrimp in 2023 reached 6.2 million tonnes, with crayfish alone accounting for over half of this at 3.16 million tonnes.

The total output of penaeid shrimp (commonly referred to as prawns) was about 2.5 million tonnes, including:

    - South American whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) at 2.2384 million tonnes (1.43 million tonnes for marine types, 0.8084 million tonnes for freshwater types);

    - Giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) at approximately 128,400 tonnes;

    - Kuruma prawn (Marsupenaeus japonicus) at approximately 46,000 tonnes;

    - Chinese white shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) at approximately 27,000 tonnes;
