Trouw Nutrition shares latest poultry research at World's Poultry Congress in Canada

Trouw Nutrition, Nutreco's livestock feed business line, presented its latest research findings on science-based poultry nutrition during the 27th World's Poultry Congress (WPC) on July 13-17 in Toronto, Canada.

 

During seven oral presentations, researchers discussed how precision nutrition strategies can improve nutrient utilisation, flock resilience, and production efficiency in modern production systems. 

 

Scientists shared the latest findings from studies conducted at Trouw Nutrition's global poultry research centres, commercial farms, and in collaboration with university partners. Nutrition studies explored optimising dietary calcium and digestible phosphorus to improve skeletal development, nutrient digestibility, and growth performance during critical phases of production. Research also evaluated phase-specific calcium and phosphorus feeding strategies for broilers, providing insight into how birds' nutrient requirements influence body composition and performance across different growth phases. 

 

Additional research shared by Trouw Nutrition scientists at WPC highlighted the application of predictive nutritional modelling to help producers more accurately estimate the physiological and economic results of various feeding decisions. By integrating animal performance data with nutritional and economic metrics, predictive modelling can support more precise diet formulation and optimise producers' return on feed investment. 

 

Addressing a persistent industry challenge, Trouw Nutrition shared research on gut health and nutritional interventions designed to strengthen intestinal health and boost flock resilience. Studies examining "Raised-Without-Antibiotics" production evaluated the interrelationship between low-crude-protein diets and antibiotic-free production systems, measuring their effects on growth performance, organ development, and body composition in broiler chicks. 

 

Other research examined changes in nutrient utilisation following a fatty liver syndrome challenge in laying hens. The findings offer new insights into the long-term physiological effects associated with this challenge and the role nutrition may play in supporting recovery. The company also presented research on PhytoComplex technologies and their potential to enhance birds' resilience to production and environmental stressors. 

 

Complementing the oral presentations, Trouw Nutrition hosted a special expert-led session, From Insight to Impact: Transforming Poultry Nutrition, featuring three presentations from leaders in poultry nutrition. Gavin Boerboom, PhD, Category Director, Trace Minerals, Trouw Nutrition Global, explored strategies for optimising trace mineral feeding in poultry. Nayara Tavares Ferreira, PhD, Director of Strategic Marketing and Technology, Poultry, Trouw Nutrition North America, discussed feeding for performance, highlighting key principles of poultry nutrition and predictive modelling. Lauren Dawson, PhD, Brand Manager, Monogastrics, Trouw Nutrition North America, examined how plant-based solutions can be leveraged to support animal health and resilience.
