Ukraine's KSG Agro invests UAH25 million in autonomous water supply system for pig farm

The project, targeting full operational independence from external water infrastructure by end-2026, reflects broader efforts by Ukrainian agribusiness to reduce exposure to wartime infrastructure risks.
KSG Agro, ranked among Ukraine's top five pork producers, is investing more than UAH25 million (US$603,000) in an autonomous water supply system for one of its pig farms, with completion targeted by the end of 2026.
The project centres on the reconstruction and modernisation of Pumping Station No. 10, which will draw water from the Dnipro-Kryvyi Rih canal, alongside upgrades to pipelines, new pumping equipment, automated metering systems, and digital water distribution management tools. The farm currently consumes approximately 20,000 cubic metres of water per month. The company estimates a payback period of three to four years.
The initiative is structured around the creation of the "Niva" water users' organisation, a non-profit body bringing together 189 landowners and land users in the region. The organisation will manage a land reclamation network covering 1,052 hectares - one of the three largest irrigation systems in the Dnipropetrovsk region - and coordinate water supply services for production and land reclamation needs of its members.
Serhiy Kasyanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KSG Agro, said the investment was aimed at reducing dependence on external infrastructure. "The autonomous water supply system will serve as a powerful safeguard against infrastructure risks and, at the same time, lay a solid foundation for reducing operating costs in the long term," he said.
KSG Agro is a vertically integrated holding engaged in pig farming and the production, storage, processing and sale of grains and oilseeds, with a land bank of approximately 21,000 hectares across the Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions.
