Bird flu outbreak detected in Laos' Xaythany district market

Authorities in Laos have confirmed the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus at a market located in the Xaythany district of the capital city, Vientiane, as per a report from the country's Department of Livestock and Fisheries under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Azeri-Press Agency reported.

According to Lao National Radio, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry officially declared the outbreak of H5N1 bird flu last Friday. This confirmation follows the detection of the virus in 30 out of 65 poultry samples collected from the market, raising concerns about the spread of the disease.

In response to this outbreak, Laos' Department of Agriculture and Forestry has issued directives to the livestock sector, urging collaboration with relevant agencies to investigate the sources of infection. Measures such as gathering essential information, isolating affected areas, and implementing protocols like the destruction of infected poultry or the establishment of high-risk area zones are being enforced.

Local residents are also being urged to actively participate in efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
